I am sitting in a circle with a large group of other people. Some of them are participating in nanowrimo and that is what we are discussing although everyone is talking at once and I can’t really hear anything. The girl sitting to my right is from New York and apparently there is another girl, who is wearing all black, at the other end of the circle who is also from New York. Someone suggests that the three of us sit together but I explain that just because someone says they are from New York doesn’t mean that they are. The few people who overhear me say this are confused and I explain that a true New Yorker will only say they are from New York if they are from Manhattan because either you say you are from The Bronx, or Queens, or upstate New York but only someone from Manhattan is truly a New Yorker. I keep talking even though I suspect that I may be offending some of the other people.
