Rob and I are crossing a street and I almost get us both hit because I am not paying attention. The woman in the car stops and at first it looks as though she is about to yell at us for being so stupid, for not watching where we crossed, for scaring her. But I am so profuse with my own apology, horrified that I risked so many lives, that she is immediately assuaged. I notice she has The Artist's Way in her lap along with a book on learning Japanese and we begin to bond. I've made a friend and after I give her my email address I wave goodbye, hoping she will contact me.
