I am a concubine, working as a spy for a rebel group.  One of my regulars, a captain with whom I’ve done both kinds of business before, tells me he has a someone he needs me to keep distracted while his people do what they do best.  I begin my research, looking over recent socialite soirees in hopes of finding my anticipated target but I am not sure who he is.  I notice one woman who is obviously on the downward end of socialite standing, appearing one year on the cover and a year later at a different party wearing the same dress which no longer fits her quite right, buttonholes straining to stay in place.

In the meantime, I am doing other things to prepare for the big event–hair, manicure, dress, etc.  The captain finds me and says he has some bad news for me because there is a complication.  The person he needs me to keep distracted is a woman.  I’m confused and unsure if I can help because I’ve never taken a woman for a customer before. “Don’t worry,” he says.  “I found a book for you.”  We are both giggling and flirting and at one point he embraces me and says, “After this, I’m going to hire you for my own pleasure.”  “After this,” I repeat and we kiss fully and meaningfully.  Now that I know I am going to be seducing and distracting a woman, my agenda changes, how I choose to dress and everything has to be shifted in subtle but necessary ways.  Through all the preparation and planning, I am most excited about seeing the captain “after this” so I can fully reap the rewards of my effort.

(When I woke up and thought about the dream it had the feel of Firefly to it without any of the familiar players.)
